After that we did the same thing, except with the engine on, in neutral. That was very important because he could hear if he rolled on the throttle while braking.
Then on to first gear with the throttle-limiter. I didn't even tell him there was more gears until he got comfortable with first.
One last thing, let him crash while he is still going slow. That way he knows what it's like without getting hurt (all the protective gear will help him at that speed, right?).
