    First Win

    by Jason » Sun Jul 17, 2005 6:15 pm

I haven't raced in three months because I'm remodeling the house. The last race I finished 6th overall and haven't rode much since.

First moto: After the first lap, the first four riders were black flagged for being too fast for the class I was in 5th. I thought for some reason the race was stopped and pulled off the track only to have everybody yelling at me to keep going. After I realized what was going on I was around 8th. On the second lap my left foot hit the ground on a jump in between the peg and shifter, bending the shifter. I killed the bike on the 3rd lap after pulling into 3rd place. By the last lap I was 20 ft behind the leader at the finish line for a second place finish.

Second moto: Terrible start, 12th on the hole shot and 8th at the end of the first lap. I got the lead on the last lap and held it. I was exhausted when it was all said and done. Noticed I rode a lot harder when someone was in front of me.

That's the finish of the second moto, I ended up first overall. The first time I rode the local track with the stabilizer and it works great. Track felt a lot smoother.

Congrats man, it's always a great feeling to fight hard and get a win, especially your first!

Black flagging doesn't happen everywhere, as some track owners don't like to make waves and potentialy upset their customers (paying racers), but some stand-up track owners/promoters do weed out the cherry pickers. I myself have never seen why someone would ride a slower class just so they ccan win, as there is not a bit of pride or sense of acomplishment in that...

It's the club races at the track in Waco. They will time the first lap of at least the lowest two classes and whoever is faster than a certain time will be black flagged and moved up into the next class. I know I wouldn't mind, I want the competition to be the same as my level. I don't know if they'll move me up next month (Aug) just for winning in July but I was thinking about it anyway because riding against faster riders will make you faster. I do know of a race every year at the fair grounds that if the begineers pull off a triple they will be black flagged and moved up. To me it makes sense and I'm with b.lee that there is no pride in riding in a slower class just to win.
