Well after prepping the bike all afternoon Saturday, I felt very confident in the new suspension already an hadn't even rode it yet! We left just after 5:00am heading for Wagon Wheel staging area. Such a beautiful morning with a fresh 39* showing on the way through the dez. When we arrived at the site, sign-ups actually went by quick surprisingly sense this was a national event an usually attracts around 550 entries. Went down to the bomb run to see a few hotshots (Destry Abbott & Russ Pearson) already picking their starting line. I first check Abbott's line an liked it alot, just too many people had the same idea. Checked out Pearson's line an boy was it straight an flat... Nobody seemed to want to lineup there until right before the start so I knew i'd have to get a good start to stay out of the dust. Expert & ammies took off but we had to wait a good 20 minutes because of a downed rider on the bomb. As soon as the banner went up, I stayed focused on the banner the best I could an nailed a great start. I believe I was in the top 10-12 through the end of the bomb an just settled in a grove. I only picked off 2-3 riders through what was a whooped out yet fast in sections first loop. Came into the pit seeing the radar showing me at 23mph and I knew I had to get down to 15mph yet some kid still passed me coming in. Pit went by very smooth and I was out before the kid who went by me. I ended up putting some distance on him the best I could but he ended up chasing me down an started dicing it up through the corners. After a long fire road just 5th gear WFO, we hit a tight single track an I started looking to make a move by him. All of a sudden his bike died in a corner yet he fired it right back up as I went by him. Another WFO open section where he got by an put a little distance on me, into a single track an he was kicking, and kicking, and kicking at his bike. I imagine his valves went sense he was wringing that thing out bad and it was a Honda crf250 I believe, surprise! Ended up getting some nasty blisters on my palms an had to fight through it an a few guys got around me. Finished 9th O/A Novice, 3rd Novice 250! Hopefully I get a transfer out of it!

Sounds like a great ride and a battle with that one guy. Way to go.

Well done!!! Third in class at a national is well done indeed! Nothing better than going back & forth with the same guy for a while, esp. when you beat him!

Thanks for the comments guys... The suspension was a HUGE difference! The bike hooked up so well off the start it pulled a wheelie an surprised me a bit. Then once in the fast chop the bike actually stayed straight instead of wanting to pass me. I had a great time and ride but I got some killer blisters! Time to learn how to tape my hands sense I can't find a pair of gloves that are worth a poop.
