    Has anybody besides me

    noticed how boring the outdoor MX series is when Bubba wins every race uncontested??

    The Supercross series was exciting, but the MX is just Ho Hum...

    I don't know. I get excited when Alessi (Mikey that is...) gets the holeshot, leads for 2 turns, then Bubba comes from 4th (or 6th...or 8th) out of the first turn and passes everyone by turn 4. Pretty cool! :roll: Not.

    I like watching in person though. If you've never seen him scrub a jump in person, like laying flat inches above the ground pinned in 3rd/4th gear, you HAVE TO. Gives me chicken-skin just thinking about it. Lol...

    I used to enjoy when RC made the races this way. I didn't mind it. But I guess after 8 years, I want to see some racing dammit! :evil: Gotta give up to him though, he's "the man" now and he's definitely maturing into the leader of our sport. I'm 10 times happier seeing Bubba then watching Chad Reed win, then complain about everything. I hate the way that guy views our sport...

    You bet.
    It sucks.
    Although I acknowledge Stewarts outrageous abilty the competition blows as it has now for years.the riders don't match up to the greats from the past,and it's just a fact in my opinion.
    With typical "Old Guy" skepticism I looked up a Trans-AMA from 1976.
    Someone please tell me why I it wouldn't be impressive to find 9 either past or future World or National Champions being present on one day at one race ?
    DeCoster,Lackey,DiStefano,Weinert,Tripes.
    Oh, the 125 class...Hannah,Wolsink,Smith, Glover. Now compare that to any 9 at one of todays races.
    So we've got Stewart, and Carmichael when he was active. Then what ? Mrs. Reed with his metro-sexual make-up,perm and earrings :roll: ?
    The racing was better and so were the riders in my opinion. Sure , we can't run them all together but there is data on the riders past and future accomplishmants, and it ain't close.
    Hey, the bikes are sure better though :lol: . Doug

    That's because though I acknowledge Stewarts incredible skill, the competition is weak, as it has been for years now.
    With typical "Old guy" skepticism I point once again to line-ups from any National in the 70's and 80's and doubters, please correct me if I'm wrong.
    I looked up a Trans-AMA from Mid-Ohio, 1976. The line-up ? 9 either past, present or future either AMA National or World champions.
    Compare that to now ? SX with Mrs. Reed and his metro-sexual perm,make-up and earrings? Windham, nice guy but no killer instinct 10 years ago and still none today ? Carmichael,a fantastic talent but GOAT :roll: ? Against whom ?
    Then back to this Trans-AMA: DeCoster,Mikkola, Weinert,DiStefano,Lackey,Tripes. Oh, don't forget the 125 class: Hannah,Smith,Wolsink, (winner),Glover.
    So,take those 9 and their accomplishments vs. any 9 at a National or SX today and compare.
    It ain't even close. Doug[/b]

    Most of the time I agree with you Doug, but I have to contest. Our past champions you listed were riding and progressing in a different time. The terrain was different, the bikes were different, and the level of progression was different. At the ripe old age of 30 ( :oops: ), I can't claim to possess the wisdom I'd like to, but I have to believe something has changed. I'm firmly in belief that today's society shelters children and does not allow them to mature as quick, but I believe today's riders are more talented than yesterday's.

    And "training" has become necessary, not optional. As far as I can tell, some of the guys trained hard, some were just tough SOB's that could ride a motorcycle, and some could lead regular lives but had talent out the wazzoo.

    The days of someone who was fast on a motorcycle showing up at any pro race, or even semi-pro race, and placing well are long gone.

    I could be wrong, but think RC put ALL the pieces together, not just some of them.

    The lites class is always fun to watch. But I've gotta agree w/AS.

    It's still amazing to watch him though, even on TV. He's one of the nicest pro guys too. Espicially for winning as much as he does, he's really not arrogant at all. Not like others we all know (# 12+10 :D )

    You have to like bubba to a extent. I was watching a interview with him and a reporter asked how does he feel about winning with no competetion. He quickly jumped all over the the reporter and said listen here bub. These guys train just as hard as I do and to say they are no competetion is a insult to this sport and everyone who rides it. I thought that was pretty good repsonse. To stand up for all the riders like that. Last weeks race was good for the first oh 10 minutes until bubba checked out.

    Well, maybe I'm still a baby in the sport (or just plain "a baby,") but I get excited every time the DVR shows "AMA Motorcycle Racing." I (like anyone else) can easily predict the outcome, but it's still fun as hell watching them haul a$$ around that track. I'm even impressed by the poor dude in 40th place. I just think about what it takes for a person to even be in a race at that level. Damn impressive if you ask me!

    I agree...it would be better to have several dudes really fighting it out. I feel for Alessi. That dude smokes the holeshot nearly every time. Bubba toys with him for a little and then checks out.

    Reed = DICK!
    Lawrence = DICK x 2!

    These a$$holes should be taken out...permanently! Absolutely they are talented...no question there. But, the do put a bit of a black eye on the sport. Of course, every sport has those few douchebags. Why should ours be any different?

    Overall, I love it...predictable or not. It's tons o' fun watching those guys.

    I will agree that Bubba up front and alone isn't all that good. It's getting to be that way with Villopoto as well. The real racing is behind those guys. Maybe next year when those two get together it will be more fun.

    124;
    Your opinion is always welcome,and respected.
    The fitness level I agree completely has improved,and not because of any inate superiority in judgement or any other superiority but simply because of advances in the field and the knowledge of the benefits.
    It reminds me of a conversation I had with a family computer geek. We were watching something about Apollo and he said nearly dispargingly that the vehicle only had the computer power of an average home p.c. nowadays. I told him my opinion was that was what made the guys who could fly those missions, in space and on the ground so impressive, that they had to and could use slide rules rather than just pushing a button.
    There were riders in the 70's and 80's that were incredibly fit and complete nuts about fitness, like Brad Lackey and Johnny O'Mara among others, O'Mara being a trainer right now for some big -name rider.
    For the most part though from top to bottom the fitness level now vs. then is a decided advamtage to todays riders.
    I have an old video I should send you on the 1973 GP season a British buddy sent me.They are interviewing Joel Robert as he smokes a cigarette(!) between motos at the French GP,which he won both 250 motos. Imagine the gnashing of teeth and rending of garments if he did that today, gasp ! :lol:
    If I could be as fast as any of my old heros when they're 60 or whatever I'd be a very happy man.
    You should have seen Jim Pomeroy go the last Vintage Days at Mid-Ohio he would attend, he was like 59 or something and was just flat hauling.The great ones always have that smoothness, don't they ?
    If anybody from the midwest hasn't been to a Mid-Ohio Vintage Days you're missing out on something very special. Doug
