    Options for new Exhaust 450R 05 (05-08?)?

    by rodH » Thu Feb 25, 2021 8:43 am

Wasn’t planning on a new exhaust because the bike has plenty of power in stock form, but I’m so deep into the project that I figure I might as well replace my old (slightly scratched, dented and faded) for an aftermarket one and save some weight in the process (I am not one that believes there is going to be a HUGE jump in HP on a high performance motor just by changing the exhaust).

With the bike being so old, Doesn’t look like there are a ton of options out there and nothing that looks nearly as trick as the newer Ti and carbon fiber stuff out there (Yoshi RS12 or FMF 4.1 Ti come to mind).

Anyone have any opinions as far as what is out there OR if modifications can be made with piping or brackets to make one of the newer ones retro fit?

How about this ... it seems to have some of the criteria you are wanting ... https://www.rocketexhaust.com/product/crf450r-2005/

Those do look pretty nice, but NOT cheap. Bummer, was hoping to find something with spark arrestor insert for under $500. Maybe ill buy a more "modern" one and try and retro fit it to my bike (I mean, adding a bracket to line up can't be all that hard, can it? I guess then you also have to worry about how the header and inlet on exhaust muffler line up)

btw, Jim, Thanks for all the replies, probably not all that fun, lol, seems like your always willing to help people out on the board! Just trying to have fun tricking out the old bike instead of dropping $11k-13k on a 2021 crf450RWE or RX

Yea , I understand , unfortunately , not a lot of "bling" options for that bike , all the "trick " stuff is on the new gen , you can get a plain old silver system for that price , but that was the only Carbon looking system I could find for yours ..... and yea , I am also contemplating getting a Yosh system for my 20 , looking at $900-$1300 ... so I feels ya , that is on top of the $9000 out the door for the bike , I have already gone thru 3 chains (stock , EK Gold X-Ring, DID Gold X-Ring) and on my 2nd set of tires (MX3S to MX33....Huge Difference) adding a Flywheel Weight , so it does not rip my arms off , and regeared 14/52 from 13/49 , not to mention $289 for my graphics from Decal Works , and I just got it last Sept , I wish I could have afforded a Roczen Edition ... man I love that bike .... but this was all the budget would allow at the time , and to be honest , I am really happy I went ahead with buying it and going in depb , it was definitely worth it to me , anyway , I might just go with the Yosh Slip Ons for about $700 ...still contemplating .... :-k

I already have almost 48 hours on it , and have been unable to ride every single weekend because of snow and iffy weather , otherwise I would have more time on it ... it will be worn out before the year is up at this rate  , then I will have to start sinking into the pit with this one .. .... either way it seems like all bikes are Money Pits , its just a matter of how deep you want to , or can afford , to dig the hole ....

That is why I got my 20 , I had already done a complete revamp on my 02 several times and just from a tech standpoint , it was still inferior to the new gen bikes even with all I had done with the suspension ... it was fast , but no where near as fast as what I have now ... not even close , and everyone that rode it thought it was the best handling 02 they had ever ridden (one friend had just bought a 21 Yamaha 450 , and he liked my 02 more than his bike , he sold his a week later) ... but it was still a 02 and I was content in knowing I had done everything that could have been done to make it a better bike .... I had over 400 hours on it since the last rebuild , but the kid that bought it is happy as can be , so all is good ......

And no problem on the help , if it was any help 8-[ .... When I am not riding , I gotta have something to do :-~ ... and I can only play video games so long before I get a kink in my neck from staring at the PC shooting everything .... sucks getting old ..

And your bike is real nice .... the passion shows ..... ;)

ya, if money were growing on trees, i'd pick up a 2021 450RWE in a heartbeat. But I am one to never charge/finance things (besides a house and maybe a car or 2). So lot of people running around with new bikes, being financed, so it just doesn't make sense for me, so i'm just having fun doing what I can with what I got. Frankly, I never have an issue keeping up with all my buddies on Orange Bikes and Huskys, so I don't think it is "holding me back" too much. Maybe it a bit more effort, who knows, but like you, I've had the suspension dialed in, changed the offset of my forks (common issue back then), scotts, etc... Back then I did a lot of mods that I wouldn't now, just cause it was so dang expensive.

Yea , trust me , if I could have paid for my bike up front I would have (my buddy with the 21 wrote a check for $10,000) , but unfortunately , the only way I was going to be able to get a new bike was to finance it and my money tree does not have many leaves let alone branches .... , and yea my 02 had no real issues with any "new" bike , but the kick start and my 61 year old arthritic hips , and the niceness of EFI , and I knew it was now or never on upgrading , I will be 65 or 66 when I pay it off , but my plan is it to be my last bike regardless of how much longer I ride (hoping for at least 10 more years) , I just hit 50 hours on it at the track this last weekend ..... time flies when you're having fun

Lol. I wasn’t referring to you (didn’t even know you financed it) just in general, it’s kind of my thing not to finance certain things. (Basically any “toy”, if I can’t afford to pay cash for it, then I can’t ‘afford’ it. Even with cars, i bought a 911 as a ‘fun’ car (not a daily) but I didn’t feel good about buying it until I could put a large enough down payment to the point where the financed part of the purchase was basically what a Honda Accord would cost. I am just a little OCD with how I spend my money. lol. Having a kid in college doesn’t help either 😉).

Anyway, that’s awesome that your riding at that age!! Some good inspiration and having e start has to for sure help!

At any rate. Found a decent deal/situation on a new full carbon Rocket exhaust. More details to come. It’s about the most “trick” looking pipe that can work with the older CRF. Thanks for the advice.

Getting close. Although I found a decent deal on the exhaust manifold I didn’t find the pipping for my bike. I kind of assumed that I would be able to call rocket exhaust and buy one.

Not sure exactly what the issue was there, but they wanted me to send in the exhaust and the header (maybe even the bike) so they can make one to fit. Seems like they should all be a standard size and have a template of some sort to make one?

At any rate, I have a buddy that welds baja truck exhaust systems so I had him help me. I ended up cutting the stock pipping off the OEM exhaust and then welding a “slip on” portion to the end. Then I moved the stock pipe slightly forward, so I cut the fastening nut off and ended up using a pipe clamp and it threaded head to attach the pipe to the frame. (The pic below is prior to that, I’ll have to take new pics). This gives a little bit of an idea
