    2013 CRF450R engine - replace or rebuild?

    by Ttori81 » Wed Oct 28, 2020 6:06 am

    I have a 2013 CRF450R
I love this bike and want to save her.
The bottom end blew wild doing a wheelie in5th gear. Think it got too hot. I have upgrade cooling systems for future. Should I rebuild lower end or get an all new motor? If all new motor where can I find one?

Rebuild a 2013 bike. It's not that hard and with a service manual and some help here anyone with some decent mechanical ability can do the work. Not sure how it would over heat doing a long wheelie? So try to find the cause & effect while you are repairing to not have it happen again.

Thank you! I did find a motor on eBay with 11 hrs for 2,000$
    Still think I should rebuild?

I would. You know what you have and you know it's history. Buying a used unknown is just that - unknown.
It's not going to be cheap to rebuild but it will will be far less than $2000 for a engine you are taking a big chance on.
I also trust my mechanical knowledge and abilities more than I trust a used engine sold on ebay or a junk yard.
