    Stuck kickstart arm 02 crf450

    by Jrice013 » Fri Apr 11, 2014 1:05 am

I was going to replace the seals on my water pump. I was removing the necessary bolts and pieces to tank the right crankcase off. I got to taking off the kickstarter and once the bolt was off it wouldnt budge (horizontally, still makes normal kickstarting motion. I tried many different things to get it off and could not find a fix on the internet anywhere. Any thoughts?

If you took the center bolt out nothing should be holding it in , does it look like its been hammered on at the splines ??

the only thing that it could be is the splines or the end of the shaft burred , did you try tapping it IN to see if it moves ?? , i am guessing unless its rusted on , it has to have something where the bolt goes and the spline is that is keeping it from sliding off

I tried with a deadblow mallet yesterday. It wiggles a small bit but gets stuck on somthing. Not sure on what though (no visible damage).

remove the bolt, tap a flat tip screw driver into the splice around the shaft, without hitting the splines. you only have to drive it in far enough to spread it enough to make it looser and wiggle or tap off. What im thinking is there is just enough corrosion between the aluminum splines and the steel splines. the two metal properties don't really work well together.
