    throttle tube questions?

    by Dirtbike_Crazy6656 » Sun Sep 09, 2007 3:19 pm

Well it finally happened. I was on an extremely rocky trail and I laid the bike over. Normally it would not of been a big deal. It was a very slow tip over. but it managed to brake the throttle tube right in half. what is the best throttle tube to get. should I go with a metal or just go with a plastic?

Either way you go....your throttle will be functional. A few things to think about though. If you use bark busters like the Pro Bends, and you get a metal one, make sure you get an open ended tube so that you don't have to hack saw the end off. I used a pipe cutter to cut the end off my metal throttle tube off and it pinched the end a bit (just enough to make it rub). Still works but with no snap back. I am replacing it (since I pretty much ruined it) with an open ended metal or open ended plastic throttle tube. If you don't use bark busters I would recommend closed ended billet or something similar because the closed ended design houses rollers/bearings that allow for much smoother operation and throttle snap back.[/b]

I put an aluminum one on the 250X this past spring, only because the stock plastic one had worn out and become too wobbly. I guess an aluminum one could wear the same way over time -- be sure to grease the contact area between handlebar and throtte tube if you go aluminum. The ones with the bearings in the ends seem like a great idea as well.

Thanks for the advice. I thinking that I'll go with the metal.
