    rekluse pro question

    by tkrmotors » Wed Sep 05, 2007 10:07 pm

i'm installing a rekluse pro in my 450r to try out this weekend... my question is on the engagement rate... i'm trying to decide whether to use 24 or 27 balls... what differences will there be in the harder and softer engagement rates??? will the softer rate slip the clutch more and cause more wear??? will the harder rate be grabby and make the bike want to wheelie more??? will either setup be more prone to stalling the bike??? does it really freaking matter??? it's a used system and the original owner only used 24 balls... just wondering what most people are using...

btw, i am going for the medium engagement rpm... and i'm running a 12 tooth front sprocket and 15oz heavier flywheel... i would like go back to a 13 tooth sprocket...

    ok terrific!!!

got it installed, went with all the balls... installation is easy, only took a little over an hour... the only trouble i had is i couldn't decide if the oem flat washer was supposed to go under the rekluse lock washer... the instructions were a little vague but it sounded like i was supposed to reuse the flat washer... but the cut away view didn't show it... in the end i left it out... i guess it's ok, works fine...

after about 12 million kicks i finally got the bike fired up, laying this thing on it's side for an hour really blows... :x it was more than a little strange to pop it in gear and let off the clutch and just sit there... rode it around my neighborhood for a few minutes... seems ok, makes wheelieing easier... just put it in 2nd gear and gas it, nice smooth wheelie... it does creep a little bit when idling though, i'll play with it saturday and see if i can get that out of it... any suggestions???

btw, i'm definitely going back to stock gearing...

Rekluse says there should be some creep at idle. This allows for better engine braking.

BTW, I'm installing one on my 04 450r as we speak. I am going to start with 27 balls and medium engagement. Let me know how yours goes.
