I may be going to reader pit not this saturday but the next. Anyway, my cousin says that his 03 450r needed a lot of clutching in first gear the whole way and that my bike also will be geared too high. As is the bike is geared too high for the riding around my property that I do. I plan on regearing it really low since I don't have the money for a rekluse clutch. I was wondering if a 13 tooth front with a 52 tooth rear would help. I only use 1st and 2nd gear as is so I'm not worried about 50MPH top speed and I will keep the current sprockets, which are geared normally, in reserve. Does this sound like a good idea? P.S. I would use JT sprockets because they seem to be cheap, strong and steel(I'm not worried about weight). And suggestions would be appreciated! O and I know that to gear it down I need a bigger back sprocket but what about the front, do I want that one to be small or large(13 or 14 tooth)?

you need to go smaller in the back and bigger in the rear. 1 tooth in the front is 3.5 teeth in the rear so I would go 1 smaller in the front first it that isn't enough go bigger in the back. Keep in mind if you go too small in the front it is harder on the chain. My buddy went 13-52 and it is pretty good.

Not to be rude or anything, but maybe you would be better with a smaller and slower bike? I have'ent had a problem with my bike with the stock sprockets and clutch. Maybe I don't ride as tight trails as you guys?

one tooth in the front is an easy adjustment and it is a pretty big difference. you dont have to adjust the chain much where an adjutment to the rear will require adding a link or 2. if you dont want to keep it like that the front is the easiest adjustment. i change my front between 12 and 13 often. certain tight woods riding with a 12 allows me to stay in 3rd rather then constantly shifting 2nd and 3rd

Where did you find a 12 tooth front sprocket? I'm looking here and don't see them for sale.

tucker rockey list 2, one made by sunstar and one made by pro taper. JT doesnt make one. we need to talk ken into stocking them, they are becoming pretty popular on here.

Thanks! I've already ordered a 52 tooth rear sprocket from my local motorsports store, and will see if I think it neccesary to gear it down further.

P.S. I agree, We need to talk Ken into selling 12 tooth front sprockets

I believe that he already does stock the Sunstar 12 tooth. PM him and see.

you also might want to look into a heavier flywheel (cheap upgrade, maybe $110 for a trailtech)... my setup is a +15oz flywheel, 12 tooth sunstar on front, and stock rear...

i ran a jt front sprocket on my last bike... it worked but looked like a cheap piece of garbage to me... didn't run it long enough to know about durability...
