    Mobil 1 Oil

    by madrider234 » Thu Jul 26, 2007 8:34 am

    Hi all,
Can I use the Mobil 1 synthetic car oil in my 450? Or should I use the Mobil 1 synthetic designed for motorcycles? In my opinion it wouldn't matter which one I used, right? Motorcycle specific oil is designed for bikes in which the gear/clutch oil is also the engine oil, and since in the CRF's there are separate chambers for these, I should be fine with the car oil, am I right in my assumption :?:
    Thanks for any help!

You can use the Mobil 1 auto oil in your engine side only. It has moly (friction modifiers) in it that are not compatible with your clutch, so don't use it in teh tranny side.

Thats what I was thinkin. I was pretty sure that the car oil would be fine, and yes, as long as it stays in the crank side, no tranny, this I know :D
Am I right that motorcycle oil is formulated for bikes that use oil for engine as well as gear/clutch lubrication?
    Thanks!

I am assuming you are going with car oil because you want to save a few bucks. I use Rotella synthetic (blue bottle, $18 per gallon at Wal mart) in both sides of my bike. Do a search for Rotella and you will find some MAJOR oil threads but you will see a lot of guys use it.

Yes. Its definitely cheaper to buy, in my example, mobil 1 synthetic car oil in a 6 bottle box, than it is to buy mobil 1 synthetic bike oil per quart at Auto Zone, much cheaper. And since the CRF's have separate oil chambers, there is no reason I can't run the car oil.
I definitely know about the Shell Rotella stuff. It's what I put in my Dodge Ram pickup with the Cummins Diesel. Its great stuff :D
    Thanks for the input!

you can use any oil in the clutch side of the motor as long as the bottle does not say "energy conserving"in the circle on back of the bottle

Rotella is not an energy conserving oil. I use it, but try not to shop at Wally World.

Short of getting a bulk load from the Wholesaler, Wally World is the only place I have found it at a reasonable price. I'm with you about trying to avoid Wally World! :)
