There was a analysis on "another board" of a 450r vs. a 500 smoker. The outcome was the R by a couple lengths I think. The 500 had the R from gears 1,2. After that the R pulled off.
I raced my Cannondale in a 3 way on the pavement on a desolute highway. 05 CRF 450x, Late 90's KX 500, 2002 Cannondale X440s. I beat them by 3 bike lengths. The KX jumped out for gears 1,2,3. X and I were nose to nose until I hit 5th and I pulled away by about 3 lengths.
I mention this because my R would demolish my Cannondale.
