sag for a kouba link on a 450r

    by ry323 » Sun May 06, 2007 7:30 pm

I am new to crfs only and I have a 2006 crf450r , I ride woods and may try hare scrambles. I was trying to set the sag for my weight and Height I put and koubalink crf2 on it and dropped it a little over an inch.
I weigh 130 and my height is 5'10 I am trying to get 3.9inch or 100mm of sag but I currently have 2.5inch and that is after I raised the spring. Will I need a new spring or is there a way to get this one to work and how important is it. I don't know alot about suspension but I am willing to learn. I understand some of it but with my weight and height being so low can I get the sag right. I like the website it has alot of info and I would appreciate the help thanks

I'm no 450R expert, but it sounds like you need to get a lighter spring for your weight. Go to Race Tech's website and plug in your numbers.

Agreed. The 450's factory suspension is designed for a 160 lb. rider. You are quite a bit lighter than that.

thanks for the info, I just got the spring in the mail I hope to put it on this weekend. I bought the race tech spring 5.0 kg and it was blue. If anyone orders a spring they vary in colors depending on the size which its ok because I had it powder coat black. I thought it is just something to keep in mind they didn't tell me when I ordered it. thanks for the web site it was very handy

    ry323,

I'm curious as to why you lowered your bike. At 5'10" it doesn't seem like you would need to do that. I'm 5'7" 175 with short legs and I'm able to touch the ground albeit only with my toes.

well I don't weigh alot so it doesn't sag very much and I do have short legs, I can touch on the ball of my foot now. It seems like you have to get a full kick to start it and it being a little lower helps. If you can't hardly touch it is a good idea it helps alot in tight woods or rough situations I like it

If any one does put a kouba lowering link on it is hard to get the sag to 3.9in because you take over an inch out of the travel and according to the company it is best to set the sag at 3.10in and it seems to work fine for me.
