    Suggestions

    by SoCal450R » Wed May 02, 2007 11:00 am

Well I just recently bought my first bike the 450r.... Haven't really touched it yet. What would you guy suggest for the first thing done to it besides the break in and of course setting the sag?

Personally, as far as the mechanicals, I wouldn't touch a thing until you know you have to or you're ready for performance upgrades. Ride it for a while and get to know it. I have an '06 myself. I rode it for, at least, a good few weeks after break in before looking at mods.

My jetting was horrifyingly rich (which is opposite of what they normally are.) You can either invest in a JD kit or do it yourself (I think nminus1 has some tips...not sure if it was him or someone else.) In all likelihood, you will need to do some jetting changes to get it dialed in. Depending on your weight and riding venue/style, a very popular "first on the list mod" has been the suspension. Because I'm a fata$$, I resprung mine for my weight, but I didn't revalve (did the work myself.)

After that, I guess it would all depend on the type of riding you're going to do. No matter MX or woods, I would HIGHLY recommend radiator guards. Any of the top brands are fine. I went with Flatland and like them. The rads are expensive to replace.

From there...the sky is the limit. Find members with 450R's and visit their garages. That might give you some ideas of what the most popular mods are.

    Congrats on the bike!

    is it new?

Buy the SC1 clear coat in a can and spray all your plastics. You will thank me for it. I would also suggest the Pro moto billet spark arrestor. You need 1 in california and they're nice looking.

Yes it is brand new hasn't been broken in yet. BY the way I'll be riding mainly desert, and some trails. I only weigh about 155 so i think suspension is about right on from factory. Do the 450rs run lean usually? I know my brother-in laws 450x ran really lean from factory. Since then you guys have helped him with that. Thanks for all the help and if anyone else has suggestions let them fly! oh and the clear coat just keep the plastics looking nice?
