    Lots of Top End Questions.....Again

    by NoWheeler » Wed May 02, 2007 7:47 am

OK, Long story short, my Valves a done, Time for kibblewhites. Because the desert riding season is over and the high $$$ amount (for me at least) for this maintenance, I have been voicing my woe's to everyone in my group of riding buddies "WAAAA MY BIKE IS BROKEN". Well they are tired of hearing me b&%$h. I wasn't too sure whether they got me a whole new cylinder head or just the valves and springs. Anyway if it was the cylinder head and its all setup with new valves and everything. What are your suggestions for this swap? Its the same year head as my bike. Should it just slap right on and viola I'm ready to go? or is there more too it. I do plan on at least putting new rings on the piston if not a whole new piston. Of course if its just the springs and valves ill have to get the seats machined on my old head. Anyway any in site or suggestions guys???

So they gave you replacement parts or a whole new head? I'm confused. Did someone do work for you?

Regardless, I'd recommend a new piston and rings. Or at the minimum, new rings. Inspect the cyclinder for wear. As far as the new head goes, you can get a new gasket kit, slap the new one on, check the clearances, and your good to go.

If you order the new valvetrain parts, you'll need to get the seats repaired. Have a shop do it, install the new stuff and do as stated above. done....

Yeah it was hard for me to hear on the phone so i am not too sure myself. My question was if they did get me a whole new head with Kibblewhites (either way i heard Kibblewhite on the phone....i hate Cingular) do i just slap it on with rings and a piston etc etc.

](*,) Hard to hear on the phone? Your still confusing me. Does someone have your bike torn down?

Either way, a new head with Kibblewhite's installed is a good thing and less running around for you.

OR; If someone is using your current head and doing work on it, then:

As long as the installation of the valves is correct, the seats are clean, and the valve-to-seat angles are correct; then yes, toss it on and your good to go. It may take some guesswork on what shims to install, but a little trial and error will get you to the right place.

Like I said before, you may as well put a new piston kit in or at the least new rings. But make sure your cylinder is in good shape and has good cross-hatching before installing the piston/rings.
