    Front Brakes locked up????

    by jarich42 » Fri Apr 13, 2007 4:52 am

My front brake caliper will not return to an open position. I was able to get the wheel off but I can not press the cylinders back down into the caliper. I ended up taking the top (master cylinder end) banjo bolt out and then as I pressed on the pistons at the caliper end and they went in and brake fluid came out of the brake line and the disconnected end. I hooked the bolt and brake line back up to the master cylinder, bled the brakes and pulled the brake lever until the pistons were extended (brake on position) and again they will not return to an open position. Any ideas?

Sounds like you need a rebuild at the master or the caliper or both.

??? Take it back to the dealer! They should help you in a case like that.

Have you topped off the master cylinder? If so there may be too much fluid causing the condition.Other than that disassemble the caliper and inspect/clean it.Reassemble and bleed. That should do it.It only takes a small piece of dirt to hang up the works.Try this before going to the dealer as it's a race bike and there really is no warranty. They may help, they may not. Most of it depends on your attitude towards them and there attitude towards their customers.I'd try it myself first regardless of the age of the bike.
