    STARTING TROUBLE

    by jeremy.simmons2 » Thu Mar 22, 2007 12:08 pm

I OWN A 2005 CRF 450R, I HAVE RECENTLY HAD TROUBLE STARTING THE BIKE. IT WILL NOT KICK START WHEN COLD. PULL START IS EASY AND RUNS FINE ONCE YOU GET IT STARTED. IT IS ALSO GROWN INCREASINGLY LOUD. I REPACKED THE EXHAUST, BUT IT IS STILL LOUDER THAN NORMAL. ANY IDEAS OF WHAT MIGHT BE WRONG?

Loud??Have you checked where the exhaust is connected at the head and at the junction of the headpipe and muffler? Do you have any holes in your pipe?

Hard starting... If this is fairly new, have you checked your valves? The scenario that you indicate, i.e. pull/push starts OK but will not kick, is a classic valve symptom. It can be other things, but if nothing else has changed, then there is where I would start.

OK, you had your valves checked.. did they adjust anything? Here's a long shot... is your plug tight? Did they mess with your decompressor?
