    Chain Question

    by Rage » Mon Feb 26, 2007 6:48 am

I am looking into buying a new chain soon, and I am wondering which D.I.D. chain can I buy that will work on my bike. There are so many different types. I basically ride trails, river bottoms, I love to rip through the mud and I also hit the track every now and then. I also plan on getting the Renthal sprockets.... any other ideas... better recommendations, I am all ears..

    Thanks
    Jeremy

I got the DID 520VT Gold chain (rivet.) SunStar steel front sprocket and SunStar Z-sprocket for the rear. I went with CRFsOnly member 124's suggestion on the sprockets. So far, they've been great. They're steel sprockets so they add a little weight, but the wear factor appears to be excellent.

    Kept the gearing stock.

    Thanks Ned,

I will take your advice and I will add them to my wishlist today.

I can't to get home from my deployment, I have so much stuff already waiting for me to put on my 450R. It is going to be the Christmas for me that I missed while over here in the sandbox.

You're getting there Jeremy, your bike is waiting patiently for you.
That D.I.D. VT nedirtbikr recommended is outstanding, guy's on here have gotten incredible service out of that chain which comes stock on 450X's, it's just not the gold one. It's narrow, so you don't have to jerk around with any spacers, you'll love it.

    Thanks dobent,

You also cleared up something that was a little confusing to me. I wasn't sure if the ned was talking about was the thin one, or if there was a different one.

The best one you can afford. Chain tools especially, follow the golden rule - "You get what you pay for".

Or, you can take it to a local shop and have it done. I went to a local KTM shop and they did it for $15. I know I'm kinda screwed if it breaks on me, but I guess I'll just take that chance for now.

    Hey Jeremy,

Where are you deployed and what arm of service are you in?

You're getting there Jeremy, man, when you get vack you'll be blown away with how GREEN everything looks compared to that God-forsaken place.
Be patient while outproccesing, you know how it is.Get yoourself into that "I'm waiting in lines all day and I'm in the Army, just go into a trance and daydream about your bike while you experience "Village of the Damned".
The psych debrief is a trip, actually they do a good job with that nowadays, be straight up with those folks.
It'll all pass though, and you'll be riding bud. And other things you've suffered a,uh...defecit of, a deficit, right, that's the ticket :D
Get home safe and catch up ! Doug
