    Mint condition 2006 450R value?

    by Monkeywrench » Fri Feb 23, 2007 10:29 pm

    Hey guys,
have a quick question for you, and it (may) entail my joining the ranks of the 450R forum from the 250X. Not *positive* yet, but am really pondering it... :P

I found a 2006 450R which the owner had only ridden 3 times. It's basically not broken in yet. 4600 is the asking price. Now for the couple quick questions... :?

    1) That sounds like a really good deal... so I'm not going to make that one of the questions. ;)

    2) Is there any great difference between the 06 and 07 450R's that would have caused anyone here who might be an 06 owner to have rather chosen the 07? (Reliability issues, design change, anything like this)?

Again, still thinking hard on this one. A 450 is a lot of bike to pilot, and I'm a little aprehensive, although about the only thing left I can do to the 250X is start putting big bore kits on it (see sig. below).

Thanks guys, I appreciate any advice.
Little nervous. just a little. ;)

First off that is a great deal!!!

Second, there are a few differences in the 06 and 07 but you will not notice them unless you are a experienced and excellent rider. One of the changes is that honda added a better accelarator pump cover in 07which you probably would not notice. But if its a big deal then Boyesen sales them for about $80.

Third you should get the bike and as far as it being to much for you......the short answer is yes( its to much for most of us but it is the best bike in the world). However you can tame it a bit with a rekluse automatic clutch and add a new sprocket with a couple more teeth.

    Good luck

Get the bigger bike. I weigh 140 lbs but I am tall the bike weighs like 150 lbs so turning around in tight corners and manhandling the bike is patheticlly easy. As for the motor Its acceptable power wise but its no big deal getting used to it. You will have more upper body strength after the first few rides so thats ok. Other than that if you take it easy and don't try to be a stunt man on it you'll be fine and havent you always wanted a CRF 450R anyway. Who hasn't.

    Guys thanks for the guidance.

That fast, he sold it. I guess once he posted it as "must sell fast, first 4600.00 takes it", it went. REAL fast.

Yup I did come to the conclusion I was gonna grab it.
Will just keep hunting one out. We'll get 'er done someday.

Thanks again guys. I hope to be joining the ranks soon ;)

Jeez that sucks that you missed that. Keep your eyes open, you'll find one.
It's risky buying a used thumper , though one with 3 rides on it it's hard to go wrong. You may find a left over new 06 a dealer wants to move thoug, it won't be 4700 but you could probably get a left over 06 R for fairly substantial discount. Doug

    Doug -
been searching the area, and did find some new '06's left... but not within 4 hours drive!

The 450 must be worth its salt and then some ;)
Just makes me all the more curious to see if this is a tamable lion. Something about the near-double power that I'm used to makes me little nervous, but I'm hearing the powerband is pretty user-friendly, as is the handling of the 450 itself. We will have to see. :P

I went from a 230 (yes, a 230!) to an '06 450R (new.) As it is a big jump for sure, you'll get used to it. Don't give the power thing a second thought. If you track down the right buy (for you,) you won't be sorry.

    Very much so.
For me the Rekluse made a huge difference in taming this thing so it can be easily off-roaded without any stallin, yet it'll still rip on command. Doug
