    Oil Leak

    by War450 » Sun Feb 11, 2007 2:05 pm

First of all this is a great site. I had a front fork leaking. Tried the film negative trick. So far so good. So thanks to all.

Now I noticed a leak at the countershaft (drive sprocket). Parts fiche shows an oring and a seal. Is it usually the oring leaking or the seal? Or both?

Also, I have average maintenance type mechanical ability. Routine maintenance such as brakes, r&r chains & sprockets, Oil change, etc...

Is this a difficult repair? Maybe someting the average joe can do?

    Thanks,

    Doug

It's the seal and you can do it yourself. Easy one...

Got the sprocket & Collar off. Does the seal just pry out? Do I need a special tool?

    Thanks

Pry it out with a small screwdriver or hook. It should pop right out. Make sure not to damage the sealing surface...

Thanks for the help. Before pulling the seal out, I cleaned everything real good with the collar out. Reinstalled everything and rode it. It set for a while. Pulled the sprockett back off. It doesn't appear to be leaking anywhere.

    We'll see.
