hello everybody.........my name is salman and im from bahrain

guys i really need ur advice, im this close of purchasing a brand new 450r from the dealer , but the problem is that im confused since there's only a 300$ (approx) difference between the 250r and the 450r. my friends r trying to convince me to go for the 250r because its less dangerous and has a dual exhaust which looks cool....

im 22 years old and i allready own a raptor 700r......and i know for a fact that the power of the 450r is tooooooo much for me, its like 150$ for every 100cc, what should i do? im thinking i should go for the 450r cuz its the baddest 4 stroke out there..


p.s. my legs can't reach the ground on the 450, only 1

I'm not so sure that is the answer.

A) If you can't touch the ground on the 450R, the 250R will be no different. Same seat height.

B) Just because the 450R has more power doesn't mean you must use it all.

C) When you buy a 250R, you will want more power eventually. There is no $300 mod that can be done that will get you anywhere close to a 450R.

Bahrain huh? Interesting.
What is your weight? What is your riding like? What is your ability (be honest!)? How long have you been riding? What kind of riding will you do with the bike? Do you friends own bikes?

Getting the 450 because "it the baddest 4 stroke out there" is the completely wrong reason. And getting the 250 because the exhaust "looks cool" is also the completely wrong reason. The 250R has enough for just about everyone in the trails and on the track. If you do a lot of open terrain, messing around on roads, desert-like riding, etc, then maybe the 450 makes sense; depending on your ability...Your weight may also play a factor. Coming off of a couch (quad), I'd lean towards the 250...

As usual, both AS and 124 are right...I shouldn't have responded so quickly. Just sounds like you pretty much ruled out the 450 with your "tooo much power" comment.

Great questions from both of them. 124 is especially right about "being honest." Being honest will get you the best advice money can buy (even if that advice is free.)

124, i've been riding since high school and i'm not short ,i used to have a cr 80, then a xr 250 , cbr 400 , after that i went to study abroad for three years an this is my first year back home and its camping season now, all my friends have atvs mostly raptors 700,thats why i bought 1, but i still miss the 2 wheel feel and excitement , n like u said I do a lot of open terrain, messing around on roads, desert-like riding, no tracks . thanks for ur advice, i made my mind

welcome to crf's only! wow, we've got member(s) in bahrain. that's pretty cool.

i would never select a bike based on the size of the bike. this can always be adjusted. more importantly than size is purpose and your skill. one of the smallest riders i've ever stood next to is Ricky Carmichael. he certainly can handle the power and weight of a 450. so, match to your skill and the intended purpose.

my baby is finally home ........i dunno what should i call it: wheelie machine, torque monster, rocket on 2 wheels etc.........this bike is fantastic

just got my bike from its 1st service, feels stronger but in the first 5 hours i've noticed the oil level going down eveytime i drive it, and 1 more thing......my butt is hurting, the seat is very hard (compared to the 700hr -couch)

another problem is the chain, its shredding the white plastic mudguard near the suspension,its also shredding the tire, the mechanic told me its normal!!! i was like WTF , i guess ill let them change the tire and the plastic for free....once i learn how to post pics ill share em with u guys.....

What year is this bike? I believe you said you were going to get a new one, right? Assuming you are the very first rider of this bike...definitely keep an eye on this. The oil level my go down a bit during break in, but it shouldn't be extreme. Check your plug bolt and the crush bolt with it. Make sure the oil filter cover is snug. I'm imagining Bahrain is pretty dusty? Give the bike a good wash, make sure it has the proper level of oil, and then take it for a ride. Look for areas of the bike where the dust is sticking. Dry dust on a bike is differnt than oily sticking, dust...I'm sure you'll recognize the difference. Use those sticky oil trails to help determine where the leak(s) might be (if any.) Watch your radiator hose overflow. Maybe even intentionally overheat the bike just a bit to get the radiator to start puking. Once you do this, is the radiator fluid the normal green (or blue if you use Engine Ice?) If it's dirty looking, you may have a bad seal (this is not likely, but check anyway.) Otherwise, if it's new, tell the dealer and have them check things. The R models have no warranty (at least in the States,) but most dealers will be cool about it if you work with them right away.

You're on a REAL bike now. Sitting is NOT an option . There are replacement seats out there that are softer. You could also re-do your own if you want. I have a stock seat and am fine with it.

What your mechanic is saying is total BS. The chain will rub the guard and tire when it is worn out and/or not adjusted correctly. Sometimes even a correctly adjusted chain may rub the guard a bit, but certainly shouldn't shred your tire. If your bike is new, a "worn" chain shouldn't be the issue. If you can get the new plastic and tire, that's great, but if the chain is not adjusted correctly, the same thing is going to happen to your new guard and tire.

hey nedirtbikr, sorry for the late reply, i really don't have time since i'm always on my baby (my 450)

my bike is brand new, model 2006.....although its written on the back fender that the bike comes with no warranty, my dealer gave me 6 months !!!! and three free services , but the problem is that they don't know shlt about r models, coz we have a few here.....all they know to work on is pizza bikes i think ill take my bike to the yamaha guys coz their a bit experienced..........i still have the chain problem, the left side of the tire is almost gone and to b honest i never clean the dust , the only time the bike was washed was in the first service............n about the seat i think i'm getting used 2 it, no need for replacment

i'm planning to order some stickers for my bike this week, i'm obsessed with stickers , but i dunno what 2 choose coz factory effex have a wide range of selection

i tried reading the trouble shoot section for sending some pics, its complicated.......
