Hey guys, im a newbie here. Just wanted to check in and say hello. I also have a small concern:

Im not new to motorcycle riding, but I am new to any mx track. I just bought a 2004 CRF450R a couple of weeks ago. I graduated from a '95 WR (YZ)250 two stroke.
I love this bike to death, and it runs pristine. I found an old thread on another site telling somebody not to buy a 450R older than '05. No reason was given. Again, it was an old thread so I didnt respond. My new bike runs great so far. Im hoping somebody here can give me some input on anything I should look out for. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thx!!

I think that "other" forum has misled you. There may have been issues with the 02 model, but not since. There is a lot of hype out there about this. If the bike runs strong, then ride it. You may want to take the time to check your valves to see where you are as a baseline. If you treat the machine well, it will give many hours of service. If you ride the snot out of it and bounce off the rev limiter a lot, then your time may vary.

BTW, there is a right way and a wrong way to check the valves. Look around and you will see the information you need... and also, post this in the 450r forum for better results.

    You've got a great bike!

welcome to the group. i'll move this to the 450r forum and leave a shadow here.

if you told us you had an '02 then i'd say be prepared to do a valve job and replace the stockers with kibblewhite valves. honda had a problem with the ti valves that year but they were resolve subsequently. if you read the test reviews between the '04-05 you'll see there are very little changes to what was considered a near perfect bike in '04. each year they make changes but the differences from '04 to '06 were mininumal. the '07 has what i consider more significant changes to the motor but even still the '05-06 was such a great motor that i'd have no problem running any of them.

good luck and welcome again to the group.
