Hot start seized......?

    Hot start seized......?

    The lever is fine, but the cable will not pull. I have not traced it down to the motor yet........was wondering if anyone had any experience with this problem. The bike seems to run fine, not quiet as much compression to start, and it idles a little higher than before. Can anyone help or have any advice? Thanks,

    I am pretty sure the Hot Start cable goes into the Carb not the engine. Could be an issue down there. When I get a chance later on today, I will look at my mechanics manual and see what they suggest in trouble shooting.

    Bull, you are correct. It lets additional air into the carb to counteract a "flooded" condition. Sort of an anti-choke.

    Did you lube the cable with out removing the plunger from the carb? It might be that debris has gotten into that part of the carb. Just unscrew it from the carb and clean up the end of the cable, plunger and all, then clean out the part where the plunger enters the carb.

    Myk450 is correct. The hot start plunger needs regular maintenance. It needs to be lubed about once a season. I doubt you're gonna be very happy removing the plunger after it has seized, but take your time and good luck. I would order one now just to be safe...

    Apply a little grease to the sides and bottom. Once a season to keep it functioning correctly....

    There is an question in mxperts in Motocross action on how to fix this.


    What it say is to remove the plastic cap and spray penetrating oil into the plunger and let it sit. Then with a pair of pliers grab the cable (at the plunger) and apply a steady twisting pressure. If it doesn't come out soak it again and try to twist it out. it also says as a last resort to cut the cable and tap a small screwdriver into the plunger and pry it out.
