Covering the airbox vents on 2006 450R??

    by ericfarrell » Thu Dec 14, 2006 7:00 pm

Has anyone thought about covering the airbox vents on the number plates? I understand that the engine needs to breathe in order to run but are the vents necessary?

I was cleaning the air filter tonight and blew through the factory screen and virtually no air gets through. It seems the major restrictor of air flow would be the screen not covering the vents.

Where I ride (AL) its very dusty and just thinking of ways to get more hours out of the air filter and most important protecting the engine.

Please let me know anyone is running their bike this way or sees a problem doing this.

    Thanks, Eric

Run some filter skins. I wouldn't restrict any air flow...

Perfect advice! I would take it one step beyond and recommend the Twin Air system. It provides more airflow, and a better filter IMHO.

or remove your stock screen and use this:

Good call on the filter skins - I forgot about those.

Not looking to get more power out of the bike - just want more coverage for the airfilter.

I'll be ordering some very soon...
