That reminds me of an old joke:

What do fat chicks and an X have in common?

They are both fun to ride until your buddies see you!

Just kidding my fellow CRF brothers, chalk it up to jealousy over your e-start. And Ned, you will never live that one down.

I have a 8 yr old son who also rides KTM. I showed him some different bikes this morning and he said if I got something other than a KTM, he would also need new bikes so we would match...

Problem being, no other bikes can compete with the KTM50SX and KTM65SX he currently rides.

He may just have to get over the whole matching thing...

If I am honest with myself, I'm having a hard time going back to a 4 stroke anyway...

Hey, I understand. If the kid wants to "match" dad...that's a GOOD thing! That means you're doing something right and he wants to be just like you.

As far as the 2stroke/4stroke thing, I'm stuck on the 4stroke. Sure, it might be more maintenance, more $ for a top end rebuild, etc., etc. but, I like the feel and power delivery. Of course, the 4stroke is what 99% of my experience has been on so I'm bound to like it more just because I'm used to it.

Hey...you need to do what you need to do. If the 2stroke is for you...stay with it! The whole point is to have fun (especially when riding with family.) The 200 is a hoot and, in all honesty, is really plenty of power for my abilities. I just need more saddle time on that thing. I posted a quick clip of last Saturday's experience on the 200. The whole day was pretty good, but during one of our last rides, I took a tiny little jump a bit faster than I should have. I've taken that jump a million times on the 450 and never had any problems. I was following a friend in a little clearing in the middle of the area we normally ride. Oh well...enjoy:

Ouch, hell of a crash. Of all places to go down and a huge puddle was right there to catch your bike. Nice Vid!

I used to race KX 125'a back in the day. I bought my 450R and let me tell you something. The R is great bike, you don't have to downshift to keep in the powerband there for the power. The 450R the power is always there, no matter what gear you are in, you throttle it and BANG it responds. Don't get me wrong I loved my KX, but I will never go back to a 2 stroke after riding this monster. Good luck in your decision.

I like that description and that is one of the things I love about my bike too. You're buzzing along in maybe a gear or two too high when all of a sudden you need to bring the front up. Grab the throttle and even though you are in 3rd or 4th and you should be in 2nd, blam the front end jumps up.

My bike did this before, and really snaps up now that I put a Thunder Alley exhaust on her.

Good post there, and you got good feedback .
You and I ride and like the same kind of stuff, I like open ,faster trails and am doing some racing again this year.
    I had a 05 450X and LOVED it,and have an 07 450R and LOVE it .
These are great bikes, the best in their classes, with the R being a freakin' legend while it's still in production.
There's a lot of BS rumours about these bikes that'll get you in trouble if you believe them or if you act on an silly internet suggestion. So don't.
We have a lot of talented people here who are glad to help, go get one !
Let's start here-Your dealer will give you ominous instructions to be sure to bring the bike back in a hundred miles or 4-5 hours to have the valves checked, and wil go on and on about how important it is to do so.Then, you'l pay them 100-150 bucks.
    Don't do it. Doug

    Research, research, research...

    Down to a YZ250 (love 2 strokes) and a CRF450R (riden 4 strokes also...)

How long and in depth is an oil change on a 450R? I change my oil atleast every second ride so this is a big deal to me.

With no skidplate to loosen or remove and using no special funnels or anything (doin' it 'ol school) 10 minutes...if you're mechanically challenged or just plain slow...15 minutes. If skid plate is installed, you might want to add another 5 to 10 minutes (depending on the plate) for the loosening/tightening of the skid plate.

In depth...NOT! Three bolts and a screw plug (if you're changing your filter.) If not changing filter, one bolt and a screw plug. I also change my tranny oil with every engine oil change...add one more bolt and screw cap. I have Flatland skidplate and I can get it all done in under 20 minutes (and that's moving at a normal, relaxed pace.) It's easier than falling off the damn thing...and most of us know how easy that is! :)
