    Motor Smoking Advice?HELP!!!

    by rideredcrf100 » Thu Oct 12, 2006 7:10 pm

My Crf 100 is smoking pretty bad,but only when it is reved.I removed the air cleaner and felt a film of clean oil inside of the tube that connects the air box to the carbureator.I figure it needs re-jetted because of my recent mods:FMF pipe,K&N filter,Rev Box,and other stuff.I called the dealer and they said it is the rings going bad,but i have a hard time finding that plauseable because it only has about 10 hours on it and it is only five months old.It is going in for re-jetting tomorrow,October 12th.What are your thoughts?

Sounds to me like you either put too much oil on your filter or didn't let it dry enough before reinstalling.

No,it cannot be the filter because i just installed it new about a week ago.And the amount of oil in the tube is enough to saturate a big paper towl.

Where did the oil in the tube come from?

Well since it's your bike and all, I figured that you might know. There is no oil (or shouldn't be) in the Carburator. The sealed tube has the Carb(once again, no oil)on one end and the Air Filter on the other. Is there a crank case breather into the tube?
If not, the only place it could be coming from is the air filter.

yes there is a crank case breather tube butit has been pulled out and put to the side, but with the tube still attached.I know it isnt the air filter because the air filter oil is red,not gold like the HP Honda oil I use.

Where could the oil be coming from then? Makes no sense.

Didn't you say the crankcase breather tube was pulled?

That's where blowback would come from.

No. You need to figure out where the oil in tube is coming from.

but the breather tube is still attached to the crank case but not to the tube that goes from the carb to the air box.

Then it cannot be responsible for getting oil in there.
