    by moto-girl*99 » Mon Jan 31, 2005 5:26 pm

I have a crf100f which it my fist bike. I have had it for about 6 months now. I want to start racing soon. What are some ways for me to change my bike to make it run faster and more powerful, without buying a bigger bike?. I need all suggestions!!! Please help me! :D

moto-girl*99...welcome to the group! there's a few things you can do for sure to increase performance. depending on what kind of performance you are looking for Powroll makes some great kit that can increase power by up to 40%! We don't have them on our website yet but you can check out theirs to get an idea of what's available. www.powroll.com If you see something you like let us know and we'll work up a quote for you.

Also, www.xr100.com has some great products as well. We are working looking to carry their products also but nothing set at the moment.

Basically, to really add any significant performance you'll need to install a big bore kit.

Let us know if we can help further.

    Never mind I found out-

What is a Bore? It is half of the equation of engine displacement. It is the size of the piston that's traveling up and down in your cylinder. The other half of the displacement equation is stroke, which is the amount of travel your piston has moving up and down in the cylinder.

good questions! yes, to simplify things, displacement is a function of bore and stroke. there are other factors at play but we'll keep it simple for now. the bore is the size of the cylinder and hence determines the piston size. the stroke, as you mentioned, is the total distance the piston travels in the cylinder. these two things largely define the displacement of an engine...like 100cc in your case. if you increase the bore you increase the displacement. if you increase the stroke you increase the displacement. obviously, if you increase both you also increase the displacement.

on achieving more power from a motor it's been said, "there's no replacement for displacement" this is especially true on small bore motors.

a big bore kit gives you a larger than stock piston which means you have to "bore" out your stock cylinder for the new, larger piston to fit. this will increase the displacement allowing the motor to make more power. so, you typically have to bore the cylinder, and replace the piston and rings at a minimum to install a big bore kit. you'll also have to adjust your jetting to match the new found displacement.
