05 CRF 100 way to lean !
Posted: Sat May 06, 2006 4:32 pm
Well I don't know squat about this little tiddler, my nephew just got one and I gave him his first lessons today, he did great and had a good time.
I think we'll be keeping the exhaust stock, any input on fattening it up to where it should pilot/main/needle clip wise would be would be appreciated.
It does the usual lean stuff, takes 15 minutes to warm up before it wil idle right, etc. Thanks, Doug

Hi Doug
If it is a typical lean situation and you are keeping everything box stock I would simply start with a bigger main by one size increase over stock (this usually fixes cold start issues), move the needle by one clip and the rest is in the fuel screw / idle mixture screw .
Little motors don't usually need very big changes to get great results .
You CAN do it !

My son has a 1995 xr 80 and a friend has a 2006 crf80. They are the same bike. They both want to die if you crack the throttle. This is a common xr problem i'm told.
I increased the pilot jet from the stock 35, to a 38 with little or no improvement. I continued to play pilot jet sizes and found a 40 is the biggest you can go and still have it idle. I did learn if you big (65), the hesitation is gone, but it is way to rich to idle right.
I was wondering if you are seeing the same problem, and if so does anyone know how to fix it. I have done quite a bit of research and found many people who are complaining, but not one solution.

What would be a good jet size for a 100? I'm looking for better performance and less bog.

I wound up ,with Willcrf's help, a 105 main,38 pilot, 1.5 turms out on the fuel screw, and opened the airbox up on the top of it, stock needle clip position, and it runs just super. Doug

Doug,
Glad to hear the CRF100 woke up. I bet your nephew was excited. I would also suggest going with a more open air filter. Either the Uni-filter or K&N seem to be the only choice. Knowing from experience with my truck, the K&N is a pain to clean and re-charge. We went with the Uni-filter on both bikes. Hard to beat that No-Toil system for cleaning filters.

Doug,
What is the recipe for the CRF150? I am in the process of upgrading both boys to the bigger bike this summer.

Hey Will,
Mustang said 110/42/4th clip and 1 turn out,and it runs way better, no more 10 minute warm ups.
I took out the insert and opened the airbox a little, just like you suggested on the 100, and it runs super. Doug

2005 CRF 150 jetting cure for sea level
110 main jet
38 pilot jet
stock needle stock clip position
1 3/4 turns on fuel screw
everything else is stock , airbox and exhaust
purrs like a little kitten and starts a boatload easier too and yay it will idle all by itself right after starting .
