I have a 10 year old so..avg size. I want to get him his first bike ne have never rode one.

I am having a hard time decideing on which one.

The 70 is auto but he might grow out of it by the end of summer. Then I just have to get a cluth bike then.

Any input or advice will help

My small 10 yo son is on the 80. The bike is a little big for him but he has years of experience from the 50 then the 70. My 7 yo is on the 70. My son picked up the clutch in a few hours but again he had the benefit of having everything else down pat first.

If he gets both feet or a foot and a toe on the other side down on the 80 I would not go back to the 70. He will grow out if it very quickly. My 7 yo has the 70 figured out.

However come to think of it where you ride could play a role in deciding. If you have open areas to ride the clutched bike will be easier to learn. If your in tight technical stuff he may struggle allot at first stalling etc and get turned off. That’s the last thing you want especially in getting the wife’s buy in to keep your fun going! :-)

The 70 is stall proof and so easy to ride. Would definitely get the confidence up quickly!

It would cost you a bit more to get the 70 for a season to get his confidence up the trade it on an 80 the year after. Maybe a used 70 to start? These hold their value well and you could end up even or costing a hundred or 2 for the use of it for a year.

Any other questions let me know.

WOW! I paid 2,000 CDN for the 70 and 2,700 for the 80.

1,000 USD is only 1,165 CDN… We get hosed up here!

Holy Crap! I paid $3000 taxes included for my 2006 CRF100F! But I suggest getting him the 80, as he will pick up the clutch thing fast. He'll have room to grow on it, and buy a set of Cycra Stealth Handguards to protect his hands. Hand/Wrist injuries are killer.

kindof think the 80.

i've got the 70 and the 80...the 70 is ultra nice, but it is a bit smaller...my 7yr old is physically big enough to ride the 80 but still new at riding.

your risk is that your son won't get into it becuase he has to overcome the clutch and decide he's not into riding.

if you can afford it, how about this:
*get a good deal on a 70
*son learns to ride
*sell and upgrade to a 80 or 100 quickly
*not lose that much, but insure he gets into it, not having to learn a bike on a clutch

I started my 7 year old daughter on the CRF70F about three months ago. She is now a good rider on it.
We also bought a CRF 80F at the same time that she is dying to start riding. It gives her an incentive to work on her fundamentals.

However it backfired! My wife took up riding the CRF 80 and loved it so much it cost me and additional $3500 for her new CRF 230F. Well the family that rides together...

PS What part of the world do you live in?
