    modification tips

    by Honda100rider » Mon Oct 11, 2004 6:17 pm

    Hello,
My name is Joe. I recently purchased a 2004 Honda CRF 100F. I'm looking to now modify it, and increase the performance, with spending no money. I would appreciate if anyone could post up any modification tips they have heard of or tried on their own bikes.
    Thank You,
    Joe

no money is tough but you can do some things that cost very little money and will increase the performance some.

free up the intake(remove snorkel, replace air filter/assembly with a free flowing air filter), free up the exhaust - replace the stock insert with a free flowing insert. you can remove the insert modify it but you won't have a spark arrestor and this is not recommeded. now that the intake and exhaust are more free flowing you will likely need to re-jet the carb. lastly, purchase a rev box. none of this is too expensive and will give the crf100f more performance.

good luck and let us know what you end up doing.

    thank you, but a question

    ken,
thank you for your response, but I'm not exactly familiar with what a free flowing air filter is, and what the snorkel is, and what size jets should i put in after these modifications?
    Thank You Very Much,
    joe

about the snorkel: take your seat off, and on top of the black box (airbox) is an indention for 2 fingers to fit in, put your fingers in that and just pull it off. nothing to it, although i never did that to my 150.

a free flow air filter: is any aftermarket filter that has dual stage foam, and is usually a different material. i installed a Twin Air filter on the 150 and i really liked it only because of the smaller diameter of the whole filter and 'cause the free sticker.

the jetting: i installed a Big Gun Exhaust on the 150 and kept an eye on the spark plug. i still got enough fuel and if not there was nothing to worry about. Basicly it all depends on your altitude. but then... i bought a 250 from Georgia and i am in Oklahoma and i can tell just by the way the bike runs and the spark plug, that i am in good hands.

hondafan did a great job of describing what i was talking about. the idea is to get more air flow in and out of the engine. when you do this you'll likely need to rejet to adjust the air/fuel mixture to the motor so it can take advantage of the increased air. you don't want to run lean as that can damage your motor.

good luck and let us know how things go.

nope, the only difference you will be able to tell is the noise. you can do anything to a small bore bike to hop it up but it wont work. unless you bore it out, then you will be able to tell a difference.

there are two screws under the rear fender...remove those and the seat will come right off.

    Hi Ken
I have bought my sons a CRF80 and my older son a CR 85 i only want then to do Enduro no MX or SX.
Now i need to liven up the CRF80 i have looked through the forum and see mostly mods to the 100.

What can we do to the 80 to make it pick up a bit better ? and is there any easy way to adjust the suspension other than fork oil and revale.

    Thanks
Oh my sons will make there own log on names this week and join in they are 9 and 11
