    07 100 won't run without choke on

    by vdaily89 » Sat Mar 06, 2010 12:31 pm

We've taken the carb off twice and completely cleaned it. It starts fine but won't run without the choke on. Also, if I go full throttle it starts to sputter. Any ideas?

You've likely got 999.5 out of 1000 a clogged pilot jet for starters.
Run a fine wire throught it and be sure you can see light, same with the main jet.
If the fuel is more than a week old get rid of it and install an inline fuel filter.
What's your airbox/air filter look like ? Thats the .5 for the 999.5 out of 1000.
Has the bike sat all winter ? If so you didn't use Stabil.
    You should've  Doug

Thanks. Actually we just bought it. It had sat for months. We've taken the carb off twice and cleaned it good. Also cleaned out the lines, tank, etc... I will take it all off again and clean. Where can I get an inline fuel filter for it? That sounds like a good idea.

Any bike shop has those filters. Make triple darn sure the pilot jet is removed and clean the daylights out of the sucker, or just buy a new one from the shop for a few bucks.
Stabil is magic stuff. When you know it's put up, put Stabil in fresh fuel while in the can, fill the bikes tank, run it 5 minutes or so, and turn it off.
Drain the float bowl via the drain screw on the carb and you're ready for a no hassle spring. Doug
    p.s.-works great too for lawn mowers,weed eaters,chain saws,etc.

Oh..if that bike sat its going to need without question a thorough cleaning and oiling of the air filtermaybe even a new one. Doug

OK, I just took it apart and cleaned the heck out of it. It's still doing the same thing. Starts fine, idles with choke on, but will not run with the choke off. If I go full throttle it sputters and cuts in & out. What about the D-shaped screw on the bottom? What exactly does it control?

Installed new jets and cleaned carb again. Got the tool to adjust the fuel screw. Still no luck. When I turn the choke off it dies. Any other suggestions? I'm stumped.

something is still definitely clogged in the carb, make sure to blow air through EVERY passage and make sure it comes out the other end, verify each passage has flow. very easy to miss those tiny passages on that small of a carb.

I'm no mechanic, but could a mis-adjusted valve possibly cause the problem?

Input valve not letting enough fuel through unless the choke is on...
