    crf 100 bbr 120 problems

    by wed68 » Fri Jul 03, 2009 6:45 pm

I bought a trashed 2006 crf 100 for my son! we tore it down and replaced cylinder piston cam springs etc with the bbr 120 kit. It ran for about 20 minutes then the cam chain broke. It was adjusted as per the Honda service manual. I replaced the cam chain and rejetted to a 105 main and 38 pilot, what a difference it made, the little bike really woke up.

Problem now is it will not idle after it is warmed up and is a little hard to start warm. I am getting some cam chain noise as well.

Any thoughts or experiences would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Bill

    Bill,
The odds of your cam chain breaking 20 minutes after having re-installed it unless their was a defect in the installation are right up there with winning the lottery.
Having what you believe is cam chain excessive noise still throws up other red flags.
I'd review the whole procedure in a Clymer manual or Honda shop manual.
If the jetting is what BBR recommends and it wont stay running I'd again review the procedure in the manual, but this time for setting valve clearance. Make triple sure you are at TDC before you set the gap. Doug

The idle issue has gone away after a few hours of riding time, I have adjusted the cam chain now twice to the factory shop manuals specs but still have what I call excessive top end noise. He rode alot this week so I plan on checking the valve clearances and changing the oil, the bike is running very well, maybe the idle issue when the bike was warm was a break in on the new piston and cylinder????? I will keep posting untill I work out the top end noise!
