    Poor Throttle response

    I bought my wife a 05 CRF100 in the spring. The bike gets used alot by the whole family. It seems to have lost its quick throttle response. When you snap the throttle there is a little lag before it takes off. What is the problem ? Should I be changing the plug and checking the valve gap already ? If I need to check the valve gap do I need any special tools from honda ? The book shows one but I am unsure if it is really neccessary.

    Do you clean your air filter often if not try that. You could also cheak your twist grip when the bike is off slightly twist the throttle if there is alot of play (loose twisting with no friction ) then all you need to do is tighten the throttle cable by the ajuster on the throttle assembly if there is not enough room them you will need to do it on the carburator end

    Thanks.........I will give that a try this weekend. Funny one of my friends said the throttle did not feel right.

    About how many hours does the bike have to have on it before I need to worry about the valves needing adjustment ?

    i havent even check mine on my 230 and its been like a year.

    Are you serious?? The manual says every 600 miles(1000 kms). I clean my air filter when I change my oil, 5-8 rides, which is a little bit less than the recommended(about 550-650 kms).

    are you serious :?: that can do almost as much dammage as not checking your valves I clean mine every time I ride and it only takes about two hours in dusty/sandy conditions to turn your filter black if it is to hard to pull air through the filter it will go around it. Past what used to be the "sealed" ring of the filter sending all of that unwanted dirt through the carb. and into the cylindar tearing up the ring
    Point:
    Cost of 1/4 gallon of gas $.87 oil $1.14 engine and carburaor work :evil: more years out of your bike priceless :roll:

    my wifes stock 100 has been running terrible.....ie poor throttle response...... I checked the fuel mixture screw on the bottom of the carb and it was out 2 1/2 turns. I set it a 2 turns and it runs much better. Is this the common setting for a bike below 1000' sea level?
