    XR100 Clutch

    by spokejunkie » Tue Dec 30, 2008 3:34 am

I picked up a 98 XR100R for my son yesterday. It is his first bike with a clutch and I figured a cheap used one would help in the learning curve and be an easy fix if he lays it down. It isn't in bad shape but needs some TLC. I am a novice gearhead and appreciate all the help. The clutch seems extremely hard to pull, harder than my 450x. My first instinct is to replace the cable. I just wanted to make sure that wasnt typical of this model before I started replacing parts. He is all about riding it today so I think we will see how he handles it.
    Thanks[/img]

    Welcome to the site!

We have the CRF 100F. Basically the same bike. The clutch pull is very light. The cable is most likely bad. You can try lubing it first or just replace it.

I guess I asked abit prematurely. I took the cable apart yesterday and added some lube and it is alot better. The bike has pretty much set for about two years and the cable needed lubed and worked abit. My son rode it for almost two hours yesterday. I was amazed that he took to the clutch so quickly. I guess we dont give the little ones enough credit.
