New 06 150 problem

Not sure where to start.

I just bought a 150f for my wife and it has not yet been ridden. I would like to take it out this weekend so I have been outside checking it out. It has been very difficult to start and keep running to the point that the battery went dead from trying to start it. ( Yes I understand the choke)

I bought a charger and made sure the battery was charged, I turned up the idle a bit and I can get it to start and stay running after several tries.

Here is the real problem ....

Once it is started and it begins to idle on its own it just stalls if you touch the gas.

The bike is warm. A slow rev/roll of the rottle gets me a slight rev. If I hit it quick or more than a 1/4 it lags with no rev and then stalls.

This does not seem right......

What am I doing wrong or is there a problem with this bike? It is 100% stock 1 week old never ridden.

I am sorry if this is a simple question with a simple answer but my 450 does not do this.

I think it might be missing a "Th".



Pull the air filter off and start it again and see if problem persists.

You did turn the fuel on right?

I had to ask...

Are you saying start it with no filter?

Yes the gas is on.

OK, here's how the Carb works:

The Pilot jet controls the flow of fuel from idle to 1/4 throttle. This is adjusted by the Fuel Screw (which I'm betting isn't adjustable on the 06 CRF 150F).

The Needle controls fuel flow 1/4 and 3/4 throttle.

The Main jet controls fuel flow 1/2 to WFO throttle.

It would make sense to me that this thing is too Rich right? Add throttle = stall? So opening up the filter to let air in seems like a fix. Perhaps not enough of a fix.

there is no fuel screw on this bike.... and the manual says under carb...

Your bike will run rich at high altitude.
If your bike has been adjusted to run at high altitude and you move it to a lower altitude it will not run as well.

THAT IS ALL. Why do they even give you a manual.

They should just give you a rock and say if you have a problem hit yourself with this.

It seems that your issues are with the pilot jet.

You might pull the float bowl off the carb and make sure the pilot is clean.

The bike should've come with a 6 month warranty.

You might want to check with the dealer before doing any work yourself as to not void the warranty.

That is the plan. I will take it in tomorrow. I should not have to mess with a new bike.

Agreed!!

That carb is a simple one and I'm sure we can figure it out, but you shouldn't have to. Cross that bridge when they tell you to pack sand.

Sean try cleaning the pilot jet. Its better than a trip to the stealership if it works. Unscrew it out, and clean it with a small piece of wire cut from a wire brush, held with a pair of small needle nose pliers. Then put a $4 in-line filter in the gas line for future. Oh yeah then put in some AV gas and hold on....

How high are u up??

My bike in winter (15*C) has this problem just start ya bike on full choke half rev and keep reving on about 1/4 throttle and turn of the choke. 150's take a long time to warm up like 2 minutes to stay idling by them selves. i have since drilled holes in my baffle with not much noise increase. this helps my bike to start.

Well... the 150 takes a ridiculous mount of time to warm up is right.

Yesterday in my garage it did take about two minutes to get the thing to idle on its own. I ended up turning the idle way up so it would stay running. I let it idle for more than 15 minutes and then went back to mess with it. It would still bog some but less than before and if I kept playing with it I could get it to stall. I let it continue to idle for a while as I read through the manual again and called the dealer.

The response from the dealer. " Those bikes take forever to warm up"

So back outside I go It still bogs some but even less this time and almost like it should be. At least I could not stall it with the throttle this time.

So I guess the problem is that it needs to be WAY WAY warm in order to kill the bog. Very unlike my bike.

I went riding today and as soon as we got to the place we were going to ride I started the bike, turned up the idle and let it sit there running while I got dressed, dressed my wife and gave her a refresher course. About 15 minutes.

She hopped on and stalled it a few times and then a short ride later we could not stall it and it started instantly upon touching the button every time we stopped.


It looks like the problem is solved for now.
