    Changing oil

    by vetteguy » Fri Dec 23, 2005 2:01 pm

Hello all, just bought a 2003 CRF150F for my son and don't have an owners manual. I want to change the oil. What type(weight) oil and how much? Oil filter? Bike is in great shape. Anything else I should look for or check as far as maintainance goes? Thanks

10W-40 and one quart should do the trick. These bikes dont have an oil filter, just an oil acreen that you will see when you take out the oil drain bolt. I recommend youi buy yourself a manual and possibly a service manual...

    Service Manual

    Check out www.helminc.com for manuals

The service manual is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and is part # 61KPT03 (for CRF150 years 2003-2006)

So I read in general CRF's have 2 drain plugs (like my XR650. Is this true? I only see the 1 with the screen. Just bought the bike used no manuals either. Seems that not quite a quart came out though leaving me to belive there is two drain plugs.

The 230 and 150 only have one drain plug and no oil filter however, there is repository (of sorts) for the crap that comes out of the oil. The 230/150 have a centrifugal oil/crap seperator. Once a year, you should remove the reservoir, clean it, install a new seal. It's in the manual on how to do it...very easy.
