    PILOT JET & AIR SCREW

    by SPIDER » Wed Aug 10, 2005 1:31 pm

    :D
How can I get to the pilot jet to change? Do I need to take the float bowl off? Will misc parts fall out when I do this? Sory if this is silly question?

Also were is the fuel/ air screw and how do you how to set it up correctly? I,ve read stuff about turn it all the way in then you want it set between 1/2 and two halfs out or else the pilots to rich or lean.

Does anyone know about any good how to article links?

    Thanks!

spider...welcome to the group. no question is silly...none of us are born knowing what a pilot jet even is let alone where it is and how to remove it...so someone (human or manual) showed us as well.

ok, you shouldn't need to remove the float to access the pilot jet. there's plug bolt at the bottom of the float...remove that to access the jets. make sure you are prepared to catch the fuel in the float either with a small bowl or with a large wad of paper towels.

here's a how-to article that shows how to change jets and needle on a crf450x and it will help with a 150 as the principles are very similar.

here's a picture of the 40mm Keihin FCR carb that's on the crf450x...it shows the float plug bolt removed, main jet exposed, and the fuel screw. the 150 carb is different but it will look somewhat like this.

    good luck...ken

    Ken,

Is this something someone with limited expertise should tackle on their own? I have semi restored an old Harley, wiring and etc, but did not go into the engine or carb. I had to totally disassemble it to have the frame powder coated and all. So I have some knowledge but don't want to mess up my carb!! I want to rejet my 150 here in cental Illinois so I can yank the snorkel and pull the bafel if need be!

    Thanks

    Mike
