CRF's Only Forums

Hi, have just brought a new CRF150 for my son (when he can get me off it!), right from first startup it seems to have quite a loud "whirring" sound as you back off the gas. Seems to be coming from the left hand side and I'm thinking that its the cam chain?? I read somewhere that they have a automotive type cam chain now instead of the standard XR200 type. Could this be making the noise? Anybody else notice this? I hoping it will quiet down as the bike wears in, has only done 1.5 hours so far. Cheers Brad.

Welcome to the CRF world! I have an 05 150 also that I purchased back in January. Actually my wife bought it for me! I had the same type of questions. The motor has some mechanical sounds that I thought were odd. The sounds are still there and I haven't had any issues. There were some other questions about this in the forums. A quick search should bring them up. Sorry I couldn't be much help! This site is a great place for help though!
