    New 05 Crf150F

    by ryant430 » Wed Aug 03, 2005 10:55 am

 Hey guys, I'm new to the site but i've been riding since I was a kid. I just purchased a CRF150F and I'm interested as to knowing a few things. Whats the difference between buying this bike and lets say a Yahama TT125 etc...? Also one more thing, should I have gone with the 230F or will this hold me for awhile?? So far I love the bike but wish it had a little more power. Any quick tricks or tips I can do to realize some of that power thats got to be hidden in this bike?

    Thanks guys

Where in Illinois are you located? I am in central Illinois. I also have a 2005 150. A little more power would be nice!! I have ridden for many years also. Have had mine since January. Still bone stock.....for now.

More power you ask. The cheapest/ most efective way is the power up mod, take off your seat and on top of yor air box there are 2 holes stick your finger in them and pull it out take the baffel out of your exhaust pipe get a high preformance air filter and as always rejet. for a little bit more power take out the spark arestor and replace it with a powrell thrust nozzle but the most power comes from and after market exhaust system. All I have is silencer but it helps alot. Im in the process of going to a 428 chain But Ill get back to you on that when I install it. Some people ( not including myself ) get a rev box but if your not carefull you can float your valves. changing the teeth on your rear sprocket is also a good idea more teeth more low end but you lose a bit of top speed and vice versa. good luck and enjoy your bike

You said What??????!!!!!! you can never compair a crf150 to a yamaha ttr125. how do i know. well because all of my freinds have ttr125s and they allways end up braking something in the engine. such as the gears and the sparkplug threds and the muffler studs. and the starter. and now nither of them even have engines on their ttr125s. they both had to take them to the shop and get them COMPLETELY rebuit.

    CRF150 vs. TTR125 vs. CRF230 / Performance

The TTR is lighter but in my opinion not nearly as tough as your new CRF 150 (which I also have). The Yamaha looks frail in comparison. I have not ridden one, don't regret my decision to go with Honda!

The CRF230 does have more power but you got the 150 so GO FOR IT. It's a great bike!

Honda published a Power Up Modification spec for your bike, and it is as the others have suggested:
    1) Remove air box snorkel and get a Twin Air filter
    2) Remove exhaust baffle
    3) Rejet the carb:
    a) Get the"full power needle" part 16012-KPT-921
    (I think it's a 42)
    b) and start with the 115 Main Jet
    (part 99113-GHB1150)

If you are new to this, talk to your dealer and see if they will do the rejetting for you.

From there, the two most popular ways to increase power are:
    1) replace the exhaust - the BBR is the most popular
    2) consider the 428 chain/sprocket conversion

The BBR pipe comes with a 115 main jet. I'm putting one on this week.

The 428 conversion is not cheap. Instead, I am switching to a Renthal works chain and aluminum rear sprocket - both are much lighter than stock components.

Mainly tho I am doing the sprocket switch to go to a 50 tooth rear (stock is 48 ). That should accelerate a little better. I don't screw with the front sprocket size - not advised.

Let me tell you this to start tho - just pull the baffle out of the exhaust (requires one of those star shaped Torq wrenches you can get at Home Depot) and you will be amazed at how much better it feels! It will sound like a CRF450

You got that wrong. The needle is right but i think your switching the pilot with the needle. The pilot should be switched to a 42 (i think) and the needle should be swapped with 16012-KPT-921. Not sure on the pilot jet part #
