    chain and sproket problems

    by 150man » Fri Jul 01, 2005 7:25 am

My chain and sprokets are just about wore out and when i replace them i want to make a change. i was wondering if it would be better to change my front sprocket from a 13t to a 12t or my back from a 48t to a 50t. which 1 would be better and how much top end would i lose? help me out if you can!

youd go slower but youd have more torque.its a sacrifice, you decide. up to you.

your chain will wear better with a larger sprocket up front and a smaller sprocket in the back. some say a smaller sprocket up front is also hard on the countershaft bearing.

so i would probably be better off to get a bigger sprocket on the back

    thanks for the advice

Front or rear- that is the question

I sized down in the front because it's much easier to switch around and I don't need to switch chains/etc. Cheap option.

Also, I can go back up to the 13t if I know my ride/territory is going to be mostly faster stuff and switch down if it's hillier/rougher going.

My hubby is a mechanic and he thinks there are alot worse things to worry about on my bike- in terms of wear and tear than the sprocket issue.

...my son's CRF150 is 13/50 and has plenty of "pop"...also a big help was the 428 conversion(chain and sprockets) with NON o-ring chain...the stock 520 o-ring is like riding with the brake on...really soaks up alot of horsepower...the 520 chain is heavy, restricting, and just plain overkill. If you want it to perform like a REAL CRF, check out what Powroll has to offer. I got the 428 conversion kit, the 26mm Mikuni, the cam, the oversize header, and the tuned endcap for the stock pipe...the bike is like a little racehorse now!

...Oh yeah, I also replaced the stock piston with a Wiseco high-compression piston (12:1), stock displacement.
