OIL chainge, the bad and the ugly.

    by DaJumper » Sun Jan 07, 2007 12:14 pm

After i adjusted my chain tention properly. i decided it was time to change my oil. but as i was draining the oil into a pan i started to hear,, small metal particles hiting the bottom. so after all the oil was drained i went through the oil and found most of the pieces of metal. HEre are some pics of what i found.

now what i would like to know is,, of course it is A bad sign. but exactly what does this mean and what do i have to do to fix it. and i just got finished rebuilding the top end twice because the rockerarm broke and it somehow broke the camshaft. Twice, so would that have caused the gears in the bottom end to fracture?

NOte: the largest piece i found was about 4mm long and 2mm wide. 2mmx2mmx4mm piece im guessing was the tip of a gear.

AND i would also like to know what was the original sprocket size.(in teeth) of a 04 crf150f. thankyou.

    Damn! That doesn't look good...

The big piece in the pictures is straight on on side, looks like a gear tooth.

You might be beating up that 150 a little too much.

Might be time for a CRF 250R!!

It wouldn't take much of a camshaft or rocker fragment to break a gear tooth.

I assume it is noisy when the transmission is turned over.

Either way it might be time to remove motor and split cases to see what is actually broken and get out the remains of anything left.

If you broke two camshafts I would be looking at the whole engine/trans as that is unusual.

actualy nothing on the inside is making any noise at all. which is strange, all of the gears work properly, and the kickstart gears are fine also. so i realy dont know.

No, only daily doses of gasoline have been known to hold off the side effects.

Ill just put in the shop later. and work on getting a bigger bike, the CRF150 is just to underpowered for an aggressive racer.
