Do you want quicker acceleration or higher top speed? the stock gearing on the 150 is 13/48. Changing one tooth on the front is almost the same as changing three on the rear. So, that being said, if you want quicker acceleration you could go with one less tooth on the front or three more on the rear. If you want faster top speed go with one more tooth on the front or three less on the rear.

    by hondacrf150 » Sun Feb 13, 2005 1:18 pm

i want more acceleration but i dont want to loose much top end tho. how far should i go down the front sprocket(how many teeth) and where do i get more links for the chain or how do i take links out. if i was to keep the stock sprockets and i got a new chain what size chain should i get.

    thanks

Your best bet then would be keep the stock 13 on the front and get a bigger chainwheel on the rear. Go with a 50 or 51. The stock chain is 104 links. Get a 106 or 108. The stock chain does not have a master link in it so you will need a chain tool or you could use a grinder to remove the top of a chain pin.

The stock front is 13 so you don't need to get another unless yours is toast. You need to get a 520 chain unless you are thinking of doing the 428 chain conversion, then you need front and rear sprockets and chain. If you are going to a 428 than the gearing is totally different. I don't know what it would be. For 13/50 520 gearing 106 links will do. If you're riding tight trails and short MX tracks you shouldn't need to worry about top end cause you probably won't ever use your 5th gear.

I found out the gearing for the 428 conversion, it's 15/55.

    chains

    by sbrjr89 » Sun Feb 27, 2005 6:57 am

I want to do the same thing to my bike, but what is the difference between the 520, 420, 428 chains?

The 428 is a smaller chain than the 520, therefore more links and more teeth on the sprockets.
