    Crf230f petcock barb size

    by Aussiecrf230 » Sun Jul 19, 2020 3:42 am

Seems a lot of aftermarket petcocks have a 8mm or 5/16" fuel barb on the tap.
    My 2004 has a 6.35 or 1/4" barb.

What does everyone else have? Please post year and size.

Trying to find good replacement taps or parts to rebuild same, so we can keep our bikes going without having to butcher up something to work.

Hey Ray, the info, I passed on to you not help you out on the rebuild?

Many of the Honda dirt bikes are 1/4" OD outlets.

    Hi Neil,
The info was good just there doesn't seem to be individual parts around here.
Maybe they are not kept in Oz anymore.
All the old fellers in the parts departments I use to deal with are long gone and new ones can only use make, model, year etc to find parts and check availability. They don't even know the 3 characters in the middle of a part number is the model that part first appeared on!

The aftermarket tap I got for a CRF230 has the larger barb and a long filter screen. Me thinks it would fit an XR400 nicely.

My tap stopped leaking after having fresh fuel in there to soften it up again but I know that is only temporary. The screen on the 230 goes into a 13mm hole in tap whereas a lot of screens are 10mm that I have seen.
I am wondering if I get some 13mm tube with the cutdown screen and glue them together. There use to be an aviation labeled glue that could be used for plastics in fuel but have to find it again.

I see. Just from memory the Honda 400EX quad I believe had a 13mm hole size to fit the 13mm tank hole. Not sure if that helps.

You are so right about the parts people. I use to be able to go to a bearing supply company with any bearing in hand and the parts guys could fix you up. Not anymore. Make, model & year....
Same with today's cycle shops for the most part.
