Put in a power up kit...runs ok but backfires at start sometimes and bogs hard when i crack throttle wide open. Opened the air box and removed spark arrestor like i was tod i should, now i'm lost. I did order a dg slip on and k&n filter (not installed) will this cure my problem ?

welcome to CRF's Only! not sure what kit you have installed but the symptoms you are describing indicate a lean condition in the pilot circuit (at a minimum). the exhaust and air filter will only make this condition worse. what needle, needle position and jets are installed?

    again, welcome.

I put in a honda factory upgrade kit .....it came with a 45 pilot jet, a 132 main jet, a thicker needle wich i set at halfway or dead center, and a new seat.....i could not figure out how to remove the old seat so i just used the needle. Im not sure exactly how to adjust the fuel mixture either, i am inexperienced at this. Any help would be appreciated and i also want to say that i will be replacing stock plug with a ngk iridium and putting the pipe and k&n on soon if that helps to get a better idea of where im going and what i need help on.

make sure you have installed this needle:

    16012-KPS-921

also, make sure it is installed correctly (fully seated on the clip. fuel screw should be opened 1 3/4 turns out to start with. also, you may have to go one larger with the main depending on your mods, altitude and temps.

Thanks ken, i will be sure to do as you've said to check the needle size, and i know it seated all the way i made sure that i checked it before i put the carb back together. My main concern was whether or not i needed to replace the seat because i did'nt. Also i still have the stock fuel screw....might sound funny but last time i tried to adjust it ended up just removing the headpipe to do it, there is almost no way to get to it otherwise any suggestions here ?

also make sure your head pipe is installed correctly and the air boot from your carb to the head is installed correctly (no air seeping through the boot openings).

How will i know if the headpipe is on correctly > it went back on same way as i took it off and doesn't sound any different so i am assuming its right....and the airboot is on all the way, also i refrenced the needle size and it is exactly what you said it should be. Now i need to play with the fuel screw and hope for the best i guess ? I have been told to turn the screw in and out and listen for the bike to hit the highest rev spot at an idle and that should be it ?

If you still have a 42 pilot it will be too lean. Install a 45 pilot and the lean popping during decel will go away.

If you didn't change out the jet for the needle it isn't really a problem unless the one in there is damaged or worn from old age or fuel with lots of abrasive particles.

    Go the 45 pilot.

Correct - They are all the same. Some may tell you otherwise but we've measured them and they're all the same.
