I have a 04 crf 230f and heard that you can exchange the carb with a xr250, is this a good move or not?

It can be if you do a couple of other mods to go with it.

    What have you done already?

IMO you need to get the exhaust flowing better to go with the big bore and air filter, with a complete system or an over sized header with the baffle removed from the stock muffler. Did you remove the resricter from the top of the air box.

yes the snorkel has been removed and the screen in the air box has been removed. When I bought the bike the kid said that it had a 250 big bore kit on it, but I need to tear it down to conferm it. When you do the big bore kit do you also do the valve and cam also or did that not come with the kit this is something I need to find out if it was done or not. On the other hand witch header pipe should I look into getting? And I notice that you`ve also done the xr250 carb and changed the front forks. should I use 250 or 80 forks?

You can do a big bore with or without doing the cam.

Powroll makes an oversized header pipe for 80 bucks, as for the forks if you are going to leave the bike stock height go with the 80/85 forks. If you want to raise the bike go with the 125/250 forks, they will still need to be shortened some.

I know this was not addressed to me but go with the 250 front end. Emig Racing has a CRF230 specific stem for the conversion.

I`ll probably go with the 80/85 so the bike doesn`t get taller. I`ve just changed from a husqvarna wr125 to the crf230f because the huskie was too tall. and I want to make the 230 all it can be even through it`ll never be what the huskie is. anymore sugestions?

yes the 250 carb will work, albeit it needs some little things to make it work (clearance issues for one)

it really affected my top end..

The only clearance issue is the gas line and that is an easy fix.

Pullin the inlet tub and shortening it was much less work than swinging a ballpeen hammer in the somewhat narrow confines of the highly engineered frame. I used MotionPro 1/4 inch fuel line as its walls are thinner and it bends better. BTW The Primative Pete that I know would have used a large pipe wrench and a long handled philips screw driver to reach in there and "dimple" the frame for clearance.
