Hey whats up, im 19, 130 pds, female, 5' 8". i own a stick shift so i understand it but ive never ridden before. but i was looking at the crf 150f and it just seemed kinda small and i felt like i'd get bored with it once i learned on it. i didnt know if i would be able to handle a 230f or not since im a beginner?? just wanted some opinions on it......

The 230F is a great bike. While heavy, it's large wheels (same size as the 450X -- 21 in front, 18 in back) and weight make it a smooth bike, very stable, with plenty of manageable power. My wife rides a 230 with the Kouba Lowering Link (which allows her 5'5" frame to sit on the bike with flat feet -- no tippy toes). She upgraded from a Yamaha TTR 125L which is also a very easy bike to ride and great for a beginner.

IMHO, the 230 would make a great bike for a beginner-to-novice rider.

Hopefully you can try one out and make an informed decision.

ok that does help me out a lot. i was just worried that it might be too heavy. it helps when someone says a girl rides one. i hate when guys are like YEAH no problem, its not that heavy at all. haha

The 230 is a great bike to start with for all the aforementioned reasons. It is also a bike that has a lot of potential. If you were to put the money you save from not getting a 250 (not saying a 250 is not a better bike) into mods a 230 (IMHO) can be powerful as well as reliable and easy to maintain. You also have the added benefit of improving the bike when you are ready for the next level.

One important thing to make sure of if your worried about the weight of the bike: If you lay it over on it's side, can you pick it back up?

My neighbor rides a 230 and loves it. It's a great beginner bike. Very simple to maintain as well.

I agree with all the above. And once you get the bike moving the weight isnt so bad. there are a lot of women that do ride them, and i think that if you buy all the gear you need to be safe, you will be just fine. Just go easy and take your time and once you get used to the bike you will be trying new things before you know it............good luck Don

I'M 36 years old and I just recently bought a crf 230, its a great beginners bike , but it is a bit heavy, however it has smooth power and is a decent handling bike to start on. The electric start is a great feature espcially when you are tired and riding hard. much easier to hit a button then kick start after stalls in tight places or falls. Jumping is not what the bike is made for and the stock suspension is probably the bikes biggest downfall, but if our trail riding most times its a great bike for what it was built for.

i ended up getting a 06 ttr 230. i got an unbelievable deal on it so i couldnt pass it up since i couldnt find any crf 230's in my budget. it runs excellent, i instantly picked it up so thats awesome. im having no trouble with it. ive dropped it a couple times, even tho its a biatch to pick up, its still not more than i can handle.

I think I'm going to wait for the crf150x to get my girl another bike. Red sticker keeps me away from the R. I think it is 80 lbs lighter than the 230.

I'm beginning to think that a 150X is a pipe dream. I'm not sure Honda is paying attention to it's off-road rider base at all anymore.
