Jetting Questions...

I just purchased a new 06 CRF230F. I ordered it with an FMF Q series pipe. The dealership where I purchased the bike said I didn't need to re-jet my bike. I called FMF directly and they said they didn't even make a jet kit for the CRF230F. Since then I have spoken to several people that have told me that I need to re-jet my bike but they haven't been able to tell me where to get the kit or which kit to buy.

I am asking all of you for help with this situation. Do I need to re-jet my bike? Which kit do I buy? Where do I buy the kit?

Also, does anyone know how the final drive conversion kit works? Is it worth the time and money? Will it really give me more power?

You can get a Power Up kit from your friendly Honda dealer. That's basically a new needle and main jet. You should also open up the airbox to improve flow.

Jaws is right.
here are the Honda part#s [at normal elevations]
Main: 132 - Part # 99113-GHB-1320
Pilot: stock is 42
Needle: Honda Power-up kit part #16012-KPS-921 (clip in middle position)

take off your seat, pull out the snorkel and the ring that holds it in.

As far as the drive is concerned I don't see an advantage in smaller/weaker chain and sprockets, ie 520 to 480.
I changed from a 13t to a 14t primary after a few months. I like it better, less shifting in the trees.

The only thing that has not been mentioned is a higher flow air filter. You have a high flow pipe and removing the snorkel under the seat will let you pull more air in provided it can get through the filter. Look for a new one from a major manufacturer (if yours is still stock) like the ones offered here on the sight. (twin, Uni and many others)

Hey Casey, I told you these folks here were awsome. I get much helpful info here, and the prices from the store are good too. All my carb stuff for the 250R came from here. All of us went to BR sun and mon, rain made it a good ride monday. No dust. See yall around.

I just bought a 06 crf230f removed the exhaust baffle and removed the snorkle im gonna get the power up kit but dont know what size main jet to run. Im in alaska right now at about 500-600 feet above sea level and temp from 50-65 in the summer. Sometimes hotter most of the time colder should i run a 132 or 135 main and what clip should i put the needle on.

:D whats up fellows i also ride a 07 crf230 does it make a lot more power to your bike by adding a power up kit to your bikes

Absolutely. Just don’t take shortcuts. Install the entire mod. You will get the biggest bang for your buck.

Open exhaust system and air box, Uni filter, power-up jetting and BBR rev box really brought my 230 to life. The 428 chain conversion was a good addition also. Do a search on the 428 for info.

Does the 428 conversion really make that much of a differance? I just dropped the o-ring chain and put a standard non oring on it and that took away alot of the friction from the orings. The wheel actually spins 4 or five time compared to 1 or 2 with oring chain while it is on the stand. I just lube it after every moto or ride around the yard.

Freeing up the drag on the rear wheel and thus the engine is the goal. Non o-ring or 428 conversion, both work. I'm did not weigh the two but the 428 drops some weight and was a consideration for me. I figured the less mass you had to get moving the less the motor had to work.

how will not using an o-ring chain give u more power?

It will not increase the power produced by the motor but it will allow the power produced more efficient by making it easier to turn the rear wheel.

The only advantage, in my opinion, for the o-ring chain on this bike is less maintanence. A properly maintained 428 chain is plenty for the 230's HP and torque output.
