    WHY?

    by Cantstunt » Wed Mar 21, 2007 8:04 pm

I took my seat off today to put on a new seat cover. When I took it off, I noticed a piece of cable that was ran between the two hooks on the gas tank strap and it had a small brass colored piece of metal attached to it. I bought the bike used and am wondering what this is for. On first thought, I thought maybe it was some sort of sensor to count laps for an enduro. Any suggestions as to what it may be? I have no idea.

Ground strap to dissipate static electricity from tank. The rubber strap isolates the tank so the cable between
    the hooks makes a ground.

Thanks...so far I think you've answered every question I've ever posted. Why do I need to dissipate static electricity?

Agent, if you don't have one on your bike, I know I don't need one!

Static electricity and gasoline have a volatile relationship. I think all the CRF's have them.

I understand that sparks and gasoline don't go together, but this cable on my bike looks home-made. Maybe the previous owner replaced the original.
