Pro Moto Billet Shark Fin

Sure the Honda CRF450X comes with a really nice looking white plastic rear brake rotor protector. Wait, did I just say it was plastic? That's exactly what I said...plastic! Let's be real, the stock plastic protector is absolutely worthless for protecting the expensive rear rotor from anything but roost from a crf50. The CRF450X bike was made to take on the roughest trails and along with that comes trail trash that the stock protector is absolutely not designed to withstand.

In comes Pro Moto Billet with their version of a Shark Fin. Essentially, this replaces the weak stock protector to provide increased protection from rocks, trees, and other trail trash. This shark fin is machined from billet aluminum and designed to provide excellent protection without adding significant weight. Like most shark fins on the market this one uses the stock mounting tabs. These tabs are relatively light weight for the type of impact this shark fin is designed for. While they will hold up to straight on impacts and most side impacts, it seems reasonable that these tabs could be damaged with repeated abuse. If either or both of these tabs were destroyed there are other types of shark fins that mount using a different method.

Stock Protector and Pro Moto Billet Shark Fin

However, by using the stock mount tabs installation could not be easier. It's literally no more than a 5 minute task. First, remove the stock by removing the two bolts. Once removed, install the Pro Moto Billet Shark Fin by installing the two provided bolts. Prior to installing them I used a drop of loc-tite (Blue) to make sure they stay put. That's is! The result is much better protection for your rear disc rotor without a lot of extra weight. Is it worth the cash and weight? Absolutely! It not only protects a much more expensive part but it can prevent damage that could end a great day of riding or worse a day of racing.

The Podium

  • Provides excellent protection
  • Excellent design, materials, and workmanship
  • Lightweight for the protection it provides
  • Relatively inexpensive for the protection it provides

The Pits

  • Uses stock mounting tabs which becomes the weak link
