Moto Billet Kickin' It With Style
The
Honda CRF450R is a purpose built machine and that
purpose is all about motocross. The only thing you
need less than a kickstand on a motocross bike is
an oversized fuel tank, right? Well that depends on
if your CRF450R is used only for motocross. The reality
is many use this bike for both motocross and off-road
riding. Out on the trail a kickstand quickly becomes
your best friend.
There's no shortage of aftermarket kickstands available
for the Honda CRF's. They not only vary in quality
but also in design. The Kick-It has several unique
design features, such as being internally sprung,
tucking in behind the side panel, and being made from
aluminum. In fact, the only thing this kickstand has
in common with others on the market is it mounts in
the more desireable location behind the footpeg.

What
does “internally sprung” mean? Basically,
it means there’s no spring attached to the outside
to get snagged and possibly damaged. The other significant
difference in design is the why it tucks in behind
the side panel when it's in the up position. In this
poistion, the chance this kickstand will accidentally
deploy or get snagged while riding is approximately…zero.
This is not only a safety feature but it also means
it's barely noticeable when in the up position. You
can easily run this stealthy kickstand at the track
and not be mistaken for a X or worry about it creating
a hazard.
Beyond
the incredible design, the materials and workmanship
are outstanding. The spring provides excellent tension
to hold the kickstand in place. The foot of the kickstand
is welded on all four sides. The mounting base is
beefy and provides a great foundation for the internal
spring and kickstand arm.

Installation
Installation
really couldn’t be easier. Essentially you’ll
need to remove the foot peg to get to the mounting
bracket. There are two bolts that mount this bracket
to the frame. Remove these bolts and the bracket to
mount the kickstand behind the bracket. One you’ve
remounted the bracket, with the kickstand behind it,
install the foot peg. Before you start you might want
to have a replacement cotter pin available. The stock
pin is pretty soft and is prone to break during reinstallation.
INSTALLATION
NOTES : Make sure you use a quality torque
wrench and refer to your manual for proper torque
specifications. Obviously, losing a peg while riding
could be a very dangerous situation. Also, make sure
you replace the cotter pin to ensure the peg will
stay put.
Conclusion
The
Pro Moto Billet Kickstand is the standard by which
all kickstands should be measured. It's unique internally
sprung and tuck-in behind the side panel design set
it apart from all the others. This design is paired
with excellent materials and workmanship. The fit
and finish are absolutely near perfect. As you would
expect these unique features and quality do come at
a price as this kickstand is more expensive than others.
However, the best usually is.
